WORD DIET

“It is not what goes into the mouth of a man that makes him unclean and defiled, but what comes out of the mouth, this makes a man unclean and defiles [him]” at least that's what Jesus said, Matthew 15:11.

Words can encourage, unite, teach, build-up, and correct. Likewise, discouragement, lies, and cheating are also produced from the mouth. That's the high-level "teach" about words. But the deeper issue is what Jesus explains to the disciples in Matt. 15:18: "But whatever comes out of the mouth comes from the heart, and this is what makes a man unclean and defiles [him]."

So, if your words are negative and poisonous, examine your heart and get your mouth in alignment with God's word!

Boy Gary...how do I do that? Glad you asked...

Read God's word daily, even if for only 5 minutes. Read it out loud so you hear it with your ears. This will help you put God's Word in your heart (faith comes from hearing the Word of God. Romans 10:17). In addition, God’s Word in your heart will help protect it.

Proverbs 4:23 “Keep and guard your heart with all vigilance and above all that you guard, for out of it flow the springs of life.”

When your heart is good, then good things are produced. Even for Believers in Christ, we must be deliberate and diligent about the good treasure we place in our heart so that good things come from that heart.

Luke 6:45 (KJV) A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.

If you have a problem with your mouth, you really have a "heart issue". The three things you need to do continually are:

  1. Examine your heart by God's instruction from His Holy Word!
  2. Deposit good things in your heart from God's Word, because His Word is like a seed. (re: Mark 4)
  3. Guard your heart with all diligence by fortifying your soul with God's Word.
Live the life Jesus died for you to have.

Much love,

Gary
